Belly Dance Lessons at Crete Park District Who: Your instructor is Sumaya Saahir What: Beginner belly dance lessons in American Cabaret Style Belly Dance. Where: Crete Park District When: Tuesday's from 6-7:15 p.m.
Frequently Asked Questions by belly dance students Q: What do I wear? A: Aerobics style clothing. For example, in the picture below, I am wearing yoga pants with a fitted tank top. Also, I have on a coin hip scarf. You can wear one if you have one, but it is not necessary. I will have a few for sale at class.
Q: What kind of shoes should I wear? A: I generally teach in bare feet, but please feel free to keep your socks on or wear ballet slippers or jazz shoes (gym shoes are not recommended- its hard to pivot and spin in gym shoes). Q: I want to practice, what music do you recommend? A: The following is a list of must haves for beginners. You can purchase these buy clicking on the link and ordering from Amazon.com. While some may be available at Best Buy or Borders Book Store, I find Amazon to be the cheapest (and if you order over $25 worth of merchandise, which I do every time, shipping is free and very fast, too).
More music must haves (intermediate & advanced) Q: What about instructional videos? A: There are not many instructional videos I would recommend for beginners. The best course is to take a class with an instructor for feedback on posture and movement, etc. However for intermediate to advanced students I recommend the following: Any video from IAMED (www.bellydance.org) or Delilah (www.visonarydance.com) is of the highest quality and worth every penny.
